Enjoying a little R&R in Florida this week. We are currently traveling on 75 South on our way to Fort Myers, FL. Looking for some warmer weather and we think Fort Myers is going to deliver. We will be painting in Florida until December then up to TN and out to TX. Right now we're in St. Petersburg, just south of Tampa staying with friends. We had a blast at Bear Creek and want to thank all of the new VORCAN collectors for their support. Thank You to all of the great bands we were able to paint over the weekend as well. It was incredibly inspiring to see so many other artists with top-shelf work and dedication. I'm not sure what the lunch is yet because Cank is painting it while I type this. We are sold out of studio pieces after the weekend, so it's time to re-up on merch. Let's go back and review Bear Creek.

We set up the Art Pavilion on Thursday Night. I surveyed the scene and discovered Zach Deputy on The Music Hall Stage. He's a one man show doing live looping, and has incredible talent. More like a blend of Keller and Paul Simon over Eoto. We painted Zach Friday afternoon on the Main Stage as our first Bear Creek painting. It is important to note he also hosted his own late night venue performing until they shut him down and he was forced to go acoustic. I got a cd on Sunday morning and listened to it twice on the drive south yesterday.

We didn't break down the easel and painted the next 3 shows on the Main Stage. Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, and Matt Butler's Everyone Orchestra featuring Jon Fishman and Michael Kang. Cank painted The Everyone Orchestra at The 4 Peaks Music Festival, and had it circled on the program as his top pick beside Yonder. The Everyone Orchestra is an ever evolving collection of incredible musicians who take symphonic direction from Matt Butler. The musicians put total trust in him, I only saw smiles on their faces. I haven't seen Kang that visibly happy to be on stage in many years. Cheers to Matt Butler, I'll raise my Modelo to you.

When we got back to the festival on Saturday we sold a few paintings then set up beside the Main Stage. We started the day with TR3 featuring Tim Reynolds, then Yonder Mountain String Band. I haven't seen Yonder since Penn's Peak in June. They were my favorite show of the weekend and absolutely killed it. Look for the Yonder painting on our next VORCAN card. We'll see you in Oxford...

Pnuma Trio deserve the reputation that precede them. We closed out the night with one of our most 3-Dimensional paintings of the weekend. We didn't get back to the hotel until after 4, which led to a late start on Sunday. We made up for it by painting 5 paintings on 3 stages to close out the festival. John Brown’s Body (2nd Stage 3:00-4:00), Big Sam’s Funky Nation (2nd Stage 5:00-6:00), JJ Grey & Mofro ( Main Stage 6:00-7:30),The New Mastersounds (2nd Stage 7:30-9:00), Stillwood (Tree House Stage 9:00-10:30) I'm glad we brought two easels and extra extension chords.

Thank you to Carrie Curtis for organizing the artists, Louise Hallauer for lending us a wall, Bean Spence for buying us all pizza, and Beau Myers for having enough energy and enthusiasm for all of us. Jeff Riggan had my favorite non-VORCAN painting, a HST piece he painted with a technique using rust. Cheers to Laundry, Reymun Jarvis, and the rest of their Tallahassee crew. The Shabadelphia of The South. Nick Fisher aka Sick Fisher is a great artist and musician, check him out. Finally, Thanks to Odenedo; It was great to meet you mom, see you on Shpongle tour, or before.

It's 2:12 on a Tuesday am. I started typing this on Monday, but It seems I'll never learn to save my words before I accidentally do something to lose an hour or so of rambling. So tonight's lunch is a weekend in Pictures. I promise to rewrite a long list of thank-yous beside the pool tomorrow.

We are in Live Oak, Florida today at Bear Creek Music and Art Festival. We are really excited to participate in this last music festival of 2008. Our work will be on display at the Art Pavilion all weekend. We will be painting a variety of bands throughout the weekend, including some of our favorites like Yonder Mountain String Band and The Everyone Orchestra. We've been blessed over the past few months with very little rain in our travels. But as they say, "when it rains, it pours", and it is most certainly a wet day of travel. Asheville, North Carolina. One of our favorite places on the East Coast. This is our shortest visit, we'll be in Florida tomorrow for The Bear Creek Music Festival. We painted The New Mastersounds at The Grey Eagle last night. They played 3 hours straight to a packed room on a Tuesday night. Be sure to check these guys out when they are in your town. We'll probably be in Miami next week. Who has a boat?

If you are familiar with our work at all, you know that while we paint in a multitude of styles and subject matters, however there are a few subjects that we always seem to paint again and again...subjects like our "Women in Recline" or "Stuffed Animal Witness Protection Program", and of course robots. Today's lunch "Say Hello To My Little Owl" was one of the last paintings created in Portland, OR last month before we left for the East Coast. Locking it down in our New Jersey studio once again today. Tomorrow we will be heading to New York City to paint The New Mastersounds at Sullivan Hall (214 Sullivan St., between Bleecker & W. 3rd St.) at 9:30 PM. We are looking to paint The New Mastersounds in State College at Lulu's on Sunday night and then continue following them down South to Bear Creek Music & Art Festival. Today's lunch was born out of a Residence Inn near the Philadelphia Airport this morning. This painting as well as most of our recent paintings can be viewed 3-Dimensionally and will be shipped with 3D Glasses. It is one of many new paintings we will be displaying this month on the $50 Dollar Lunch as well as at Bear Creek Music and Art Festival. We will be painting The New Mastersounds at Sullivan Hall, NYC on Saturday and intend to tour with them, painting their music through the South on our way to Bear Creek. Bear Creek Music and Art Festival has an incredible line-up of music including some of our favorite bands we painted on the 50/50/50 Tour, including Perpetual Groove, Yonder Mountain String Band, and of course The New Mastersounds. We had a great Halloween weekend. We surprised our good friends, The Bridge, at their Halloween show at the Canal Club in Richmond, VA. Halloween night was themed with songs from some of the best 80's movies ever, including "Eye Of The Tiger", "Danger Zone", and theme songs from both Ghostbusters 1 and 2! The Bridge are rising stars, look for them in a venue near you on thier national tour February 09. We can't wait to meet back up with them in December in Charlotte, NC. The Bridge were not the only friends we surprised this weekend however. On Saturday we landed back in Philadelphia just in time for our good friend's annual Halloween Party. This year it had a spooky new location and since most of our friends believed we were still on the West Coast, they had quite a surprise when this Zombie took off his mask.

Since we left Philly in March to begin our 50 Paintings in 50 States in 50 Days tour, the Mobile VORCAN Studio aka my Scion XB has logged over 60,000 miles of America. Its good to be back where VORCAN began....even if it is just for a week. I've posted pics of The Bridge performance on Halloween as well as a pic of the painting created that night.
